Year 6 Leavers of 2020

July 12, 2020

To send you on your way to secondary with some special memories and good wishes, please sit back and enjoy your final Springdale video!

Hello Year 6!

June 25, 2020

We sent out a text message earlier in the week asking you to send a photo or a short video to form part of our Year 6 Leavers celebration video.

This is what we would like you to do: ask a grown up to take a photo or film a short video message of you. The message should be no more than 20 seconds long and could showcase a skill that you may want to share, tell us something you have enjoyed during your time at Springdale, or simply a goodbye/good luck message to your friends. If you could send the video or photo to the school email (springdaleprimaryschool@wolverhampton.gov.uk) by Monday 29th June, we can then start editing it all together before the end of term. We are very excited to make this video for you all to send you on your way and would like as many of you as possible to come together in this video.  We look forward to seeing everything that you send us! Happy photographing/videoing!   From The Year 6 Staff

Fraction Fish

June 18, 2020

Today, we used our knowledge of fractions to create underwater creatures. First, we found 1/2, 1/4 and 1/8 by folding circular pieces of paper then pieced them together to make different kinds of fish, turtles and jellyfish. We then stuck them together to create our final aquatic design.

Rainbow Paper Chains

May 21, 2020

Today we ended our celebration of kindness by making rainbow paper chains with words of kindness and then we created long distance hugs for family or friends we are missing at the moment.

Kindness Activities

May 21, 2020

As part of kindness week, we discussed ways that we have shown kindness to each other over recent weeks either at home, in school or by helping others in society. We made clay bowls with a leaf print decoration and added messages to cards to go inside them. After that we all contributed messages to heart shaped leafs and added them to create a group kindness tree to remind ourselves of these important values.

Bags of Kindness

May 20, 2020

As part of our Kindness week the KS 2 children made bags to give to someone who needed one and they had to think carefully about who they would give it to an why. The bag contained a cup of tea ( tea bag), coffee or hot chocolate (sachet), a 'helping hand' and a biscuit decorated with a hearts, a rainbow or a smile. Hygiene was of paramount importance  so we washed our hands, the tables and utensils as needed throughout this activity. The biggest challenges were spreading skills, resisting the temptation to eat the sweets or lick buttercream off our fingers and, once masterpieces were completed, having to give them away for someone else to eat! However if  we met that challenge, we were then allowed to decorate another one and eat it, showing kindness to ourselves - a rewarding treat! Why not try making a kindness bag to give to someone to make them smile- the making is just as much fun as the giving!

School Garden

May 14, 2020

We had lots of fun in the sunshine yesterday planting in our school garden. In March, we sowed lots of seed that have now grown into plants and were ready to be planted outside.  We filled up the planters with fresh compost and then carefully planted lots of different vegetables and flowers including: runner beans, cherry tomatoes, sweetcorn, peppers, red onions, white onions, potatoes, chives, lavender, lobelia and petunias. Afterwards, we watered the plants and some of the children also enjoyed watering themselves as it was a lovely warm afternoon! There is still one planter left that we are going to sprinkle some more flower seeds in to hopefully attract some bees into the garden.

NHS Thank You T Shirts

May 13, 2020

Following the success of VE Day Bandanas using fabric pens  last week, we decided to build on those skills and design T-Shirts in support of the NHS. We listened to Michael Rosen's  poem 'Helping Hands',  researched existing ideas on line, designed on paper and then tackled stretchy ( 'Bandanas were much easier than this!' was the cry) fabric, with  the added pressure of only having one chance to get it right! Some of our errors have been  disguised using clever thinking and teamwork. We think we have done the NHS proud, learnt new skills along the way and have the possible beginnings of a new clothing business  'Springdale Supplies' ! Look out for our designs- they will hopefully be modeled every Thursday at 8pm. If not then please view our gallery.
