Hunter gathering in year 4

Year 4 travelled back to Stone Age times and became hunter gatherers as part of History this week. Exploring the outside area, the children encountered beasts from prehistoric times and foraged for wild berries and nuts to add to their collection, checking carefully to discard any poisonous ones. We discussed the seasons where it would have been best to hunt: some children said that summer would be best as there would be less rainfall and animals would be tired because of the blazing heat of the sun and easier to find as waterholes would be scarce. Others said that autumn would be a good time to stock their larders for the harsh winter months, where wildlife would be hibernating and people would need their fur to keep warm and their meat to survive.
